This article is from December of 2010:
“Washington (CNN) — Senate Democrats failed Thursday to win a procedural vote to open debate on a bill that would provide medical benefits and compensation for emergency workers who were first on the scene of the September 11, 2001”
This is what I think of, when someone talks about a War on Police. How can we expect people to go charging in to harm’s way when we won’t promise to take care of them? How can we let those among us who would give everything to save their fellow citizens suffer and bankrupt their families with medical bills? You can see the vote here:
The next time Mitch McConnell says that Police lives are in danger because of #blacklivesmatter, I want someone to push this in his face and ask him why he doesn’t think #policelivesmatter.
But there’s something else here that is really important... This bill is actually set to expire in October. It will need to be renewed before then, or the people it is meant to help will lose their coverage. Can you imagine having cancer or needing breathing apparatus because your lungs got tore up inhaling the dust of the World Trade Center and being told, “Oh well!”
So when you read about the government shut down that they’re staring at, please realize that it doesn’t just affect Planned Parenthood. It doesn’t just affect parks and federal employees. It is part of a continuing War on America, declared by those people who will game the system and refuse to consider who is hurt when the government ceases functioning.
